In college, I learned how films were written. I even wrote two short screenplays, one of which won some small awards, but I knew enough to know that I didn't know what I didn't know so my next priority was getting on set.

I needed to learn how films are made, how the ideas in screenplays are executed.

It wasn't clear in what capacity I would learn that, and it didn't much matter. I just needed to get in the arena.

I lucked out because the first role I found myself playing made me responsible for scheduling and overseeing each shoot day. I got to work directly with the writers, producers, and directors to tactically bring each page of the script to life.

Our bias should be toward action, our default should be aggressive, but we can't over-engineer our path. There are things to learn at certain levels along the way.

We have to let the path emerge as we work.

Terminal leave is too late. Do the work that's right in front of you, and see what happens.
